World-famous compositions by Antonio Vivaldi, Johann Sebastian Bach and Karel Stamic, and arias by Georg Friedrich Händel and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, performed by one of the greatest vocal talents of today, will be heard at the festival’s opening concert in the Epiphany Chapel (kaple Zjevení Páně).

The Czech Trio in Smiřice

The Czech Trio is a top-class chamber orchestra of international renown. Its history goes back to the 1890s, when the first piano trio of the same name was founded. Its members are excellent performers and teachers. Their first concert at the festival will feature the most beautiful works by both Czech and foreign composers, including famous trios by Bedřich Smetana and Johannes Brahms.

Magical Tones in the Smiřice Chapel

Julie Svěcená is a budding Czech violinist. A student at the Royal Academy of Music in London and winner of many important international competitions, she is returning to her favourite stage after a longer break. Along with her colleague, friend and excellent pianist, Václav Mácha, she will be featured during an evening full of fascinating compositions from several centuries.

Under the Spell of Singing and Organ Pipes

A delightful sounding 1763 organ will be played by an excellent Czech performer, Michaela Káčerková, who, along with soprano Petra Froese and violinist Jaroslav Svěcený, will present an original programme in this ensemble’s premiere performance at this festival.

Virtuoso Session in Smiřice

The best of Czech and international songs, opera and piano works will be performed by one of the best contemporary mezzo-sopranos, Eva Garajová, and a great pianist, Miroslav Sekera, who was chosen for the role of a young W. A. Mozart in Miloš Forman’s Amadeus due to his musical abilities in his early childhood. The whole evening will be interspersed with imaginative recitations by an excellent Czech actress, Zdeňka Žádníková Volencová.

A Guitar Celebration in Smiřice
A celebration concert on the occasion of the 92nd birthday of the doyen of Czech guitar players, Professor Jiří Jirmal.

A concert for all guitar fans. The doyen of Czech guitar players and undoubtedly the most important contemporary Czech music teacher, Professor Jiří Jirmal, will present, along with his great disciple, Miloslav Klaus, his own compositions crossing the imaginary borders of classical music. The concert will also include original compositions by the violinist and guitarist, Niccolo Paganini.

Jaroslav Svěcený & the Gypsy Devils (SK)

A brand-new programme of the world-famous Slovak ensemble, the Gypsy Devils, and violinist Jaroslav Svěcený! This long-standing project gains another dimension and offers fascinating performances of gypsy, ethnic and classical music, wonderfully arranged by the now legendary king of the cimbalom, Ernest Šarközi.

A Celebration of South European and South American Music

Vivacious music from two continents! When hearing “tango”, most fans of this genre will immediately think of the Argentinian composer and instrumentalist, Astor Piazzolla. However, this evening will bring more than that – the interesting combination of two accordions and a violin will play both world-famous compositions as well as those rarely performed in our country, written by many renowned composers. Remarkable and often surprising information and texts in relation to the topic will be presented by the charismatic voice of Alfred Strejček.

Music and Acting Easter in Smiřice

The Easter Saturday concert will be truly festive, exceptional and varied. You will hear one of the best contemporary organists, Pavel Svoboda, the renowned and wonderful Czech actor, Miroslav Táborský, the enchanting soprano Markéta Mátlová and a masterly 19th-century violin in a wide range of styles.

Final Concert
The Czech Philharmonic Children’s Choir

The excellent and world-famous Czech Philharmonic Children’s Choir with its choirmaster, Professor Jiří Chvála, for the first time in Smiřice! The combination of beautiful children’s voices and marvellous compositions will create an unrepeatable Easter atmosphere at the final concert of the 14th annual Smiřice Music Festival.
